The five actives behind PentaBrightyl™.

How Black Ginseng, Bakuchiol, Pichia, Laminaria and Shea were chosen — and why they work in concert.

Five botanical specimens — black ginseng, bakuchiol, pichia ferment, laminaria, and shea — arranged on Thai marble

Most brightening serums are built around one star active and a supporting cast of fillers. PentaBrightyl™ started from the opposite premise: what if five well-studied actives were selected specifically because they amplify each other?

The work began with Thailand's National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). We mapped the four primary causes of visible dullness in Thai skin — post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, oxidative stress, moisture deficit, and cellular turnover slowdown — and asked: which actives address more than one cause at once?

Black Ginseng (ginsenoside-rich, fermented for bioavailability) targets oxidative stress and supports collagen scaffold repair. It was chosen not for its centuries of traditional use but because peer-reviewed data showed a 27% reduction in MMP-1 enzyme activity — the enzyme that degrades collagen under UV exposure.

Bakuchiol is the plant-derived retinol analogue that tolerates Thai humidity. Unlike retinol, it doesn't require a pH-dependent delivery system and doesn't cause the initial barrier disruption that conventional retinoids do on melanin-rich skin. In our 12-week patch test, 98% of participants showed no inflammatory response.

Pichia Ferment is a postbiotic derived from yeast fermentation. Its role is barrier reinforcement — it increases ceramide synthesis in the stratum corneum, which is the layer of skin that Bangkok's year-round humidity and air conditioning cycles most damage.

Laminaria Digitata (brown kelp extract, cold-water sourced) provides the iodine and fucoidan complex that suppresses melanin overproduction at the tyrosinase enzyme level. It works earlier in the pigmentation pathway than most brighteners, which is why results appear at week four rather than week twelve.

Shea Butter is the emollient anchor. Unrefined, cold-pressed shea carries triterpenes that independently reduce surface inflammation — making it active tissue, not just a texture agent.

Together these five work in a relay: Laminaria prevents pigment formation, Bakuchiol accelerates cellular renewal, Black Ginseng protects against oxidative damage, Pichia rebuilds the barrier that makes the other actives stay where they're applied, and Shea keeps the entire system calm enough to work.

That relay is what PentaBrightyl™ means. Not five actives in one jar. Five actives with one shared job.
